The province must be waiting for the price of gas to fall tomorrow. Analyst Dan McTeague says all indicators call for a five- or six-cent drop in gas, but an increase in diesel to perhaps seven cents. Home heating fuels will rise by about six cents.
He says the drop in gas prices would be greater without regulation. In these markets, drivers can see what will happen to pricing a day or two in advance, while in Newfoundland and Labrador, price changes are necessary without warning.
He says drivers in other provinces monitor markets and use the information to decide when to fill up.
The government is considering how to set fuel prices with the Utilities Board.
