Angels left-hander Reed Detmers throws without a striker against Reiss

Reed Detmers only needed 11 starts to make history with the Los Angeles Angels.

Detmers threw without a striker on Tuesday night as he led the Angels to a 12-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Race in Anaheim. This is the first single without a striker for the MLB season and the second overall, after a combined without a striker from the New York Mets.

The Detmers, who the Angels took at number 10 from Louisville in the 2020 draft, had never thrown more than six innings in a game before Tuesday night. The 22-year-old footballer recorded without a striker in 108 courts with two strikes and a walk.

Detmers already owns the 10th individual striker in the franchise’s history and the first since the combined striker on July 12, 2019 – the first for the Angels since the death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

The Angels had no problem with the inversion of the rays, which was perhaps best illustrated by Anthony Randon’s home run in the eighth inning. He stepped up with his left hand for the first time in his career and returned with a two-handed homer.

The Angels have already won three straight victories, including an 11-3 victory over the Rays on Monday night.
