Victoria police said four people were hospitalized when a vehicle crashed into a building near downtown Victoria on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened in the Red Cross building near the intersection of Quadra Street on Fairfield Road around 4:30 p.m., police said.
Roads around the crash were closed and traffic was expected to be “significantly disrupted” by the accident.
VicPD initially said five people were injured in the crash, but later confirmed that only four had been sent to hospital.
A man who said his car was hit by a vehicle that entered the building told CHEK News that he was heading down Quadra Street to Fairfield Road with his wife and children when it happened.
He said a black SUV was the rear end of his sedan, pushing him into a Smart car at a red light.
The Smart car was then pushed into the intersection as the sedan rotated about 180 degrees. The driver said the jeep kept moving on the road and finally stopped when it hit the Red Cross building.
The driver, who did not want to be identified, said it appears that two pedestrians may have been hit by the jeep.
There is still no information about the condition of the victims, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.
