Gas prices are rising to record highs as demand grows

TORONTO –

Drivers can expect more pain at the pumps this morning as gasoline prices set new records.

Natural Resources Canada says the national average price of regular gasoline reached 197.4 cents per liter on Tuesday for the highest value of all time.

The average price rose slightly from 197.1 cents per liter on Monday, while prices rose by more than twelve cents a week ago.

Prices averaged about $ 2.23 per liter in Vancouver, while in Toronto prices averaged just under $ 2 per liter, and in Edmonton the average was just under $ 1.30 per liter.

Gasoline prices have jumped after oil exceeded $ 100 a barrel, in part due to supply disruptions related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Higher prices are also coming, as the reopening of the economy has led to high demand for petrol, which refineries have limited capacity to meet.
