Does anyone remember Pixel 3a? It was a top phone. I returned the headphone jack in 2019, it had “active edges” that you can squeeze to make things happen, it was a cheap device … I really liked the idea.

There is a lot of chat that we will not see Pixel 6a today, which would be unfortunate. But I remember the closeness of the Pixel 3a to the HTC phone range … I’d like to see this kind of innovation today, not just a basic “cheap” refresh of the Pixel 6.

As we talk about things that happened at old Google IO events, check out this funny tweet from 2014:

This is on Google’s campus. I didn’t think it was going so bad for wearables. pic.twitter.com/3HTRtJNqdM June 25, 2014

We’ve been covering Google IO for many years now – my global managing editor, John McCann, just reminded me of something:

Google often announces things and then does nothing with them for a long time – if ever. Take the image above – when Google Lens was announced in 2017, it was shown with this amazing tool: you can remove the chain link fence in the foreground to get a baseball shot.

Now it’s really only in 2021 that it has appeared on phones – Google Pixel 6 launched with the ability to remove background elements in photos – called Magic Erase – and that’s five years later.

So if you see any great new ideas from Google today … be prepared to wait a while.

Okay, did you know that Google has released an I / O Pinball game that you can play while you’re working on the developer conference today?

It’s easy to get hooked on the hardware on display today – but it’s designed to get people interested in the developer tools Google offers by embedding more developers in the world and offering them to make money or enjoy your passions.

The pinball game allows you to choose one of the mascots from the world of Google (we chose the dinosaur of Chrome) and then play the main game of pinball. There are many ways to get a high score, but I will not lie: this game annoys me.

It was slow and I missed the Pinball 3D zipper that Windows used to pack in the old days of computers. I could also put each of my initials in the rankings, so I couldn’t register my score. Which saddened me.

However, it is built on Google’s Flutter platform and is designed to show what can be done instead of creating the next AAA title for the PS5.

Look, I’m not saying that Google needs to improve its social media game today, but … actually, no, that’s exactly what I’m saying.

Okay, I have something exciting to tell you – we’ve resurrected the TechRadar Rumor Meter for our Google IO Center so you know what will come up based on our investigation.

So let’s look at our first dead certificate: Android 13 is coming, as you can see from our hot thermometer:

What can you expect from Android 13? Well, we have the full description in our special center, but since the beta review has been live since February, we know a few features that come with it.

They’re not very bright, more focused on the main code, but things like extending dynamic theming, which allows third-party applications to work with themes, and changing icons to match the coloring are on the way.

It seems that this new version of Android – codenamed Tiramisu, goes back to the days when iterations of Android were named puddings.

Things like “Material You”, the overall look and feel of Android 13, will have a lot of interesting visuals that change to match each other – an easier tool to choose audio, a sleeker clipboard, etc. . are on the way and we will hear a lot more about them today, instead of having to scan countless findings for developer preview.

(If you’re looking for a good, deep dive into what’s found in these developer visuals, Android Central has a great reference to what’s found – go and check it out).

Okay, the picture above is of the Pixel 5a, but today we hope to make a better one and show the Pixel 6a to Google IO.

Although Google has announced Serie A phones for IO events before, we’re not sure if it will today – it’s not certain, but if it does …

Pixel 6 was a rediscovery of the Pixel line, with a new design, a better camera, a Tensor chipset made by Google and a generally nice screen design.

According to rumors, the Pixel 6a will probably not have a headphone jack (the A-series traditionally keeps it) and will be made of cheaper material to reduce the price.

The array of cameras will probably also have a lower specification, but the Tensor chipset is preserved, then computational photography will more than compensate for the difference in price.

And the price is key – Pixel 6a will undoubtedly be a more affordable phone and it will excite many people. It just depends on whether he shows up today or not.

Let’s start the day with my favorite rumor: that the Pixel Watch is coming and being left in a restaurant by accident.

Our future friends from Android Central got information about the device by posting photos and news about the device – but it wouldn’t be fully included (it looks like a very early prototype), so they couldn’t get a full idea of what it actually offers.

This is an interesting design – the rounded face and the louder back are something to watch. There will be Google’s own ribbons, which you can see in the photo below, and there will also be a few hidden buttons that were not seen in the renderings.

Will we see the clock today? I think we will do it – the moments coincide well – but like the iPhone 4, disguised as 3GS, which was left in a bar so many years ago, this may be a fictitious design … let’s see.

Gooooool, good morning, fans of technology! This is the time of year when things start to be announced again, things start to happen and we are preparing for a new round of launches, discoveries and big events.

The launch of the iPhone 14 is not far off. Amazon Prime Day is just around the corner. Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 is coming in a few months.

And I can talk to you one more time through the live blog – isn’t it great?

But I’m ahead – today is all about Google and Mr. Pichai will be on stage at the Mountain View campus later today to tell us for sure about Android 13, probably the new Pixel 6a and Pixel Watch (and some weird privacy and search features you never knew you needed) and maybe around some things tablets, headphones and the like.

The ignorance is that the excitement is hidden – let’s continue throughout the day.
