A group of protesters gathered in front of Equinor’s offices in downtown St. John’s on Wednesday to protest the Bay du Nord project.
The protest coincided with the General Assembly of Equinor, which took place in Norway.
Those present came with a clear message: the province and Equinor must say no to the Bay du Nord.
Protesters carried placards reading “leave oil in the ground”, “money for Norway, climate collapse free” and “NL rejects Bay du Nord”.
The group was noisy, using megaphones to direct the chants to Equinor’s offices.

According to Sierra Club Gretchen Fitzgerald, director of national programs, the project “flies in the face of climate science” and is a “clear violation” of efforts to achieve climate goals.
Protest organizer Cassandra Drogg says she hopes their message will be heard by Equinor officials.
She says they want sustainable alternatives to oil and gas. She believes that oil and gas will not fly in 10 years and wonders why the project is proposed.
