LOS ANGELIS –
The mother of three children who were found dead at their home in Los Angeles over the weekend was charged with murder on Tuesday.
Angela Flores, 38, is charged with the murders of 8-year-old Nathan Janes, 10-year-old Kevin Janes and 12-year-old Natalie Flores, whose bodies were found Sunday morning at their home in the West Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. This was announced by the District Attorney’s Office of the District of Angeles.
The cause of death remains under investigation.
Police said Flores admitted to investigators that she killed the children and said a teenager helped her.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested along with Flores, but the district prosecutor’s office did not press charges against him. The teenager was detained in juvenile custody.
Flores reportedly had several other children, but authorities did not say immediately whether the teenager was her son.
It was not immediately clear whether Flores had a lawyer to speak on her behalf. She remained in prison on $ 6 million bail.
“We all grieve for these children. The loss of their young lives is a tragedy that has affected our entire community,” District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement.
Investigators have not revealed possible motives for the killings.
Seven hours before they were found dead, the mother was taken to hospital because neighbors said she was behaving strangely.
Priscilla Canales, who lives near the ranch-style house where the killings took place, told reporters that there was a riot late Saturday night, with Flores shouting and acting chaotically until someone called authorities.
Canales said that the paramedics had put the woman on a stretcher and that she was fighting and shouting, “Where is my Bible?”
Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, a firefighter responded to a request for a “medical response” from the police department, fire spokeswoman Margaret Stewart told the Los Angeles Times.
Jacob Corona, Flores’ ex-husband, told the Times she made strange comments when she called him nearly a week before the killings.
“She told me all these things about God. It didn’t sound right. “I don’t really know what happened,” Corona said.
“She wasn’t really religious before,” he said. “But then she was talking about death. I told her, “What’s going on?” My head was going through so many things, but I didn’t think about it.
The couple married in 2001 and divorced in 2007. They had a child together who did not live with Flores and was not among the children who died, Corona said.
The death of the children is being investigated by the children’s ward for abused children of the juvenile ward of the LAPD, the Times writes.
The Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services said it was unable to comment on whether it was related to the family, the Times reported.
