Large homes overlooking the ocean near Laguna Beach in Orange County, California, were engulfed in flames from a fast-moving fire.
The fire, called a coastal fire, broke out near a water treatment plant between Laguna Nigel and Laguna Beach at 2:44 p.m. local time, according to ABC7, and rose to 183 acres by 6 p.m.
The fire was fueled by strong winds and has already engulfed 13 homes in the exclusive enclave, where properties are regularly sold for millions of dollars.
At around 4pm, people living in the Pacific Island Drive and Coronado Pointe areas were also ordered to evacuate by Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition, residents near Moulton Meadows and Balbo Nyes were advised to be prepared to flee at any moment.
Laguna Beach High School has been evacuated. No casualties were reported.
