Funcom’s Dune Survival Game, teased in conceptual art

Our first look at the untitled survival game based on Frank Herbert’s Dune is part of a familiar trend: Developer Funcom is looking for talent to help create its next video game Dune, offering a taste of what players can expect under the form of conceptual art and the promise of great things to come.

We know very little about Funcom’s upcoming game Dune outside of its genre: multiplayer survival in the open world. But in a recruitment announcement on the developer’s website, the developer of Conan Exiles called his game Dune his “most ambitious project to date” and, of course, takes place on the desert planet of Arakis.

In addition to the above conceptual art, a second illustration to determine Dune’s mood can be seen below.

Another visual image, a computer image of a man in a photo suit with a hook in his hand, presumably riding an approaching sandworm, is hosted on the Funcom recruitment website.

Funcom has announced plans to develop a number of games based on the Dune franchise as early as 2019. The first, the real-time strategy game Dune: Spice Wars, was released early in April, and received a mostly positive response. Funcom has not announced a launch window or platforms for its Dune survival game.

Danny Villeneuve’s film adaptation of Dune, starring Timothy Shalame, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Dave Batista and Stellan Skarsgård, was released in theaters and on the 20th and on HBO Max A : Part Two is scheduled for release in October 2023, with a prequel to the TV series, Dune: Sisterhood, which is also due out next year.
