Ontario Liberals Reject Candidate for Scientifically Unfounded Views on Homosexuality

Ontario Liberals have rejected a candidate who has published a book detailing scientifically unfounded views on homosexuality.

A party spokeswoman said former Paris Sound-Muscoca candidate Barry Stanley had not revealed the existence of his book to the party’s investigation team.

Andrea Ernesax says the party has informed Stanley that it will not run as a liberal candidate after learning of the “history” of his views published in the book.

Media reports released on Wednesday described a book published by Stanley himself, which suggested that homosexuality “could also be caused by exhausted shortness of breath after birth” and was “related to how the brain developed.”

Ernesax says party leader Stephen Del Duca and the party itself condemn Stanley’s views and will not accept candidates with a history of homophobia or bigotry.

Stanley did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
