Love was swirling in the British Columbia legislature on Wednesday when an MLA asked his partner what was considered to be the first proposal during a provincial government meeting.
NDP MLA Rick Glumac – re-elected to the Port Moody-Coquitlam ride in 2020 – took a personal moment during a meeting on May 11 to address his partner, who was sitting in the public gallery at the time.
When the opportunity arose, Glumac stood up and took some time to congratulate the partners of the civil servants who support the “very unique work” in which international law is involved.
“I would like to congratulate one person in particular, and that is my partner, who is up in the gallery today,” Glumak said as he spoke.
Glumak went on to mention his partner as someone who makes his world a “better place,” nodding at the fact that his partner was making his life “brighter and more alive,” all words before asking the big question.
“I only have one question for you,” Glumac said as the hall responded positively with applause and applause at the moment. “Will you marry me?”
Although Glumac’s partner’s response could not be seen on camera, his smile said, and the reaction after a moment said everything that needed to be heard.
“I think it was ‘yes’, but to make it official, I will leave the gallery, thank you, Mr Orator,” Glumac concluded before leaving the room.
The MLA proposal is considered to be the first in the history of British Columbia’s legislature.
