A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in an apartment.
Merseyside police rushed to Vitoria Close in Birkenhead around 7.15pm on Thursday, May 12, following reports of a woman’s body found. Police entered the body of a 60-year-old woman after police entered a flat roadblock.
Paramedics arrived and she was unfortunately pronounced dead on the spot. The relatives of the victim have been informed and supported by specially trained staff.

Officers detained a 51-year-old man known to the victim on suspicion of murder. He has been detained and will be questioned by police. The investigation is ongoing and staff remain at Vittoria Close while CCTV cameras, forensics and house-to-house inspections are carried out.
The incident is treated as a domestic one and forensic scientists are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Detective Inspector Kevin O’Rourke said: “We are investigating the tragic death of a woman in Birkenhead and have arrested a man whom we can confirm is known to the victim. Our investigation into the incident is ongoing and if you have any information that could help our investigation, please do not hesitate to contact us.
“We take the problem of domestic violence very seriously and will continue to work with our partners to identify the best way to tackle it. I would encourage anyone who has been subjected to domestic violence to have the courage to let us know, and we will support you in every way possible.
