“No explanation” for most first-class degrees, as grades jump News

First-graders were awarded to nearly four out of ten graduates last summer, and most cannot be explained, the student body said, criticizing spiraling inflation.

The highest degrees are given to 80 percent of graduates of an institution. At the national level, the percentage of students receiving first, even though they have three D’s or lower at level A, has increased significantly in recent years.

The Office of Students (Offs) warned universities about allowing “undeserved” inflation in grades over the past ten years and said they should avoid allowing it to be “baked”.

Michel Donelan, the university’s minister, said universities should follow school exams and change the far higher scores awarded during the pandemic. Students take the same externally placed and graded exams
