Shannon Gilbert 911 calls released in the case of Gilgo Beach

Suffolk County Police released three 911 calls Friday night when Shanan Gilbert disappeared in the Gilgo Beach area more than a decade ago – giving some idea of her last moments.

Anxious and confused, Gilbert repeatedly told dispatchers in early May 1, 2010, “Something will happen to me,” and begged two men, “Please get me out of here … I just want to go home.”

Gilbert, a Craigslist prostitute from Jersey City, New Jersey, was out on Long Island that night and met with a client, Joseph Brewer, at his home in the Oak Beach Association with her driver, Michael Pack, police said.

At one point, Gilbert began to behave “irrationally,” and Brewer asked Puck to leave her, which seemed to be the case when she called 911.

“Please stop. What are you going to do to me? ”She says as the dispatcher repeatedly asks where she is calling from.

“I’m on Long Island,” Gilbert said many times, but wondered why she was at the man’s house.

“There is someone behind me, I don’t know where I am. I’m inside a house. I do not know where I am. Can you trace where I am? ”Gilbert said during the conversation.

“These people are trying to kill me,” she said at one point, to which the man replied playfully, “Shut up and laugh.”

She eventually ran away from the house and knocked on several neighborhood doors, interacting with two neighbors before disappearing, cops said.

Both neighbors also called police and were heard on 911 calls to see the woman in question. One man said he looked like a 14-year-old, while a woman said she was afraid to let her into his home.

As police searched the area near Gilbert, they found the dump of a serial killer or killers with the remains of nine, seven women, a man and a small child.

Although the details of how Gilbert disappeared are unclear, detectives believe her death was an “accident” and not related to the Gilgo Beach killings. Investigators estimate there may be between 10 and 16 victims of possible killings of serial killers in the area, half of whom apparently worked as prostitutes, cops said.

“Based on the evidence, the facts and the combination of circumstances, the prevailing view of Shannon’s death, while tragic, is not murder and most likely not criminal,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison told a news conference on Friday, according to ABC7. .

Police also said they interviewed Brewer and Pack and found that they were not responsible for Gilbert’s death.

Harrison, a former NYPD chief, has renewed his focus on prosecuting the Long Island serial killer after taking over Suffolk, setting up a new task force and releasing additional evidence in hopes of uncovering new clues.

The Gilbert family filed a lawsuit to release the calls in 2020, with a judge later ordering only the cops to hand over the records to the family.

Harrison promised to release the tapes after he became the county’s chief cop in January.
