The wizard continues to reign in the multiplexes of madness in North America. “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” should easily head the indoor box office on his second weekend.
Marvel’s superhero sequel alone grossed $ 16.7 million on Friday from 4,534 seats, down 81 percent from a whopping $ 90 million on the first day a week ago. As with most Marvel Cinematic Universe recordings, “Strange 2” reveals itself as a preliminary box office affair, although there isn’t much in May’s release plan, which seems to be a big competition except for Downtown Abbey: A New. Focus Features Era “next week and” Top Gun: Maverick “by Paramount on Remembrance Day weekend.
After the expected sharp drop from the fanatical number on the first day, “Multiverse of Madness” has to balance up to about 67% drop for the weekend. This is on the steeper side of the falls over the weekend of the second year of participation in Marvel Studios, although starting with the eleventh largest domestic debut of all time, there is nowhere to go from there but down.
On Friday, Disney announced that “Strange 2” has exceeded $ 550 million worldwide in just nine days. The film is set to gross $ 300 million gross next week.
Directed by Sam Raimi, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” features Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular superhero, along with Elizabeth Olson, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chivetel Eggiofor and Socitl Gomez. Variety called the sequel “both fun and exhausting,” with Owen Gleiberman describing it as “an uncompromising journey, CGI horror jam, a Marvel brain teaser, and at times a bit of a test.”
Meanwhile, Universal’s Firestarter didn’t. Although the adaptation of Stephen King is the only new major release this weekend, the film does not shine at the box office. Firestarter looks set to land fourth in the local charts with a projected payout of $ 3.57 million from 3,412 seats.
The film did not have many positive impressions, however, receiving a grim overall rating of 15% approval from Rotten Tomatoes critics and a rather dismissive “C-” rating from general moviegoers on the Cinema Score. Variety Gleiberman wrote that “the whole thing plays like Logan, made in the worst banal rhythm, designed for streaming general style.” And because Universal has chosen to debut Firestarter day and date in its Peacock streaming service, audiences have even less reason to release the horror movie.
In Keith Thomas’ Firestarter, Zack Efron plays the father of a girl (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) who has the power to create flames with her mind. Sidney Lehman, Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley, Michael Graces and Gloria Ruben are also in the cast.
The fourth weekend of Universal’s “The Bad Guys” should take second place in the local charts. DreamWorks Animation’s robbery movie looks set to hit a pretty charitable 30% drop over the weekend, likely to take advantage of the shortage of family movies in theaters right now. Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also faced a slight 30% drop in its sixth weekend, still attracting young children and parents.
The top five finishes “Everything Everywhere and All at Once” on the A24, which seems to fall by a paltry 11% from its previous release. As of today, the film will have grossed more than $ 45 million in North America. Should Michelle Yeo’s action continue to be as impressive as it used to be – and why not? – then “Everything Everywhere” must exceed the $ 50 million gross of “Uncut Gems” to become the most profitable domestic edition of the A24 of all time.
