Britney Spears and Sam Asgari announce miscarriage

Pop star Britney Spears said in an Instagram post on Saturday that her surprise pregnancy, which she announced last month, ended in a miscarriage.

“With the deepest sadness, we must announce that we lost our miraculous baby in early pregnancy,” the 40-year-old singer wrote in a joint post with her partner Sam Asgari.

Spears announced the pregnancy in an Instagram post on April 11, saying, “So, I got a pregnancy test… and uh-uh, I’m going to have a baby.”

The news came five months after a Los Angeles judge dismissed a queue long overseen by Spears’ father, an agreement the singer said prevented her from removing the IUD despite her desire for more children.

In a statement on Saturday, Spears and Asgari added that “they will continue to try to expand our beautiful family … We kindly ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

Spears said in a post announcing her pregnancy that she would lie low during the pregnancy to avoid the paparazzi, and that she had previously suffered from perinatal depression, which she described as “absolutely terrible”.

She is now the mother of two teenage sons, Sean and Jaden, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Asgari and Spears met in 2016 when they partnered in a music video for her single “Slumber Party”.

After announcing her engagement late last year, Spears has since begun calling her 28-year-old partner her “husband.”

When Spears announced she was pregnant, Asgari said in a separate Instagram post that “fatherhood is something I’ve always looked forward to and don’t take lightly. It’s the most important job I’ll ever do.”
