Firefighters and the Michigan DNR are working to control a 2,000-acre wildfire that burns Montmorency and Cheboygan County.
According to officials, those helping to control the fire began on Friday around 9 p.m. A press release said 40 firefighters and an additional 12 members of the incident’s management were helping to put out the blaze.
Tri-Township, Hillman Area, Vienna, Canada Creek Ranch Fire Brigade, Albert Township, Charlton Township and Onaway are helping to contain the fire.
Air maintenance is also involved in controlling the fire.
Authorities say the wildfire, known as the Blue Lakes fire, has evacuated 13 people.

“The fire was started by a mixture of pine, mixed pine and grass, with a lot of smoke visible from miles away,” said DNR spokesman Kerry Hackman.
The following roads are currently closed due to the fires:

Blue Lakes Road to East Branch Road.

Black River Road to Camp 30 Road.

Clark Bridge Road to Black River Road.

Blue Lakes Road to Meridian Line Road.

The Black River between Blue Lakes Road and Clark Bridge Road is also closed.
According to the DNR in Michigan, nearly nine out of ten forest fires nationwide were man-made.
A red flag warning of fire risk was issued in northern Michigan on Monday. The warning was applied to the entire Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The Red Flag warning has been applied to the area due to high temperatures, very low humidity and strong winds expected in the area.

The fire was initially opened around 1pm on Friday. Authorities say an investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
