This will be the first bloody moon for 2022 this weekend as the moon undergoes a total lunar eclipse
This Sunday, May 15, will be the longest total lunar eclipse for Canadians in 15 years, which will turn the moon into a terrible blood red.
Starting late Sunday night and continuing very early on Monday morning, the moon will undergo a 5 hour and 20 minute transformation to create a Blood Moon.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth, Sun and Moon are perfectly aligned. The earth blocks the sun, casting a shadow on the face of the moon
The moon will turn dark “blood red” during the eclipse when it passes through the earth’s darkness (the fullest part of the shadow). A small part of the light from the sunrises and sunsets of the planet will turn the otherwise white cosmic rock into a very mysterious red.
According to timeanddate.com, the eclipse will start at 9:32 pm on Sunday and will reach its maximum at 12:11 pm on Monday morning.
The lunar eclipse will be visible throughout the country, and Ontario will get one of the better views.
The next time this lunar event will take place on November 8.
