A car was sunk by the sea after getting stuck in the sands of Cleethorpes Beach today (Saturday).
The Volvo 4×4, which was towing a jet ski, got stuck just as the tide came. Two men were rescued after Scott Snowden, manager of the Cleethorpes resort, spotted their car in distress on the coastline.
The Scunthorpe men were visiting Clitherps for the first time, hoping to jet ski off the beach. Scott now fears the vehicle will contaminate seawater with pollutants.

The rescue of the owners began around 1 pm, when the two men went to the shoreline to start jet skiing. As they unloaded the jet skis from the trailer, the vehicle’s wheels sank in mud.
Scott said he was on patrol with colleagues, advising visitors to make their way to safety as the tide came in. The team took the father and child away from the incoming water when Scott noticed the car stuck on the shore.

Cleethorpes Beach has a layer of sand that covers a thick layer of bolder clay – which can be tricky for vehicles. Scott said: “It’s not suitable for vehicles at all.
“This is the nature of the beach. There is soft sand and we always advise you not to go up on the beach.
“Hlissing is the best place to start. If people don’t know the area, they should always contact the Beach Safety team. “
Scott added: “There’s bolder clay under the sand – it’s hard once it gets stuck. We tried to help with the removal, but the tide came in [the car] will be covered.
“It is deeply disappointing that there is a risk to the environment and our area of special scientific interest with the fuel and materials in the car. But that’s because you don’t think before you act.
