People living in the area described disturbing scenes after the stabbing on Sunday morning. One reported seeing “blood all over the floor.”
Another said he heard “two women screaming” around 8 a.m. this morning before police arrived. Senior officials described the incident as “shocking”.
Detective Inspector Laura Lamping said: “It is shocking to find that a man was stabbed in a residential area at this time of morning and we will do our best to make sure that anyone who carries, stores or uses knives on this way he is facing the court.
“Detectives investigating the incident made a quick arrest and after talking to witnesses, we are following some very positive lines of investigation. But we still want to hear from someone else who may have been in the area at the time to provide information.
“No one should be the victim of a knife crime, and your information or evidence may be vital as our efforts continue to remove knives and those who use them from our streets.
“We continue to allocate significant resources and conduct targeted operations in Merseyside to free our streets from knife crimes.
“I would urge anyone who thinks of carrying a knife to think again and save themselves and others from the risk of serious injury and save time in police custody.
“It’s just not worth the risk, because we patrol, search for stops, carry out orders and arrest suspects, or search land and homes where we believe knives are stored every day.
