Google will remove nearly 900,000 abandoned apps from the Play Store

San Francisco: Technology giant Google is preparing to clear nearly 900,000 apps that are abandoned or out of date from the Play Store.

According to the Android Authority, the Google Play Store can see that the number of available applications has dropped by almost a third.

Google and Apple have unveiled measures to address abandoned apps or apps that haven’t been updated in two years. In the case of Google, this amounts to 869,000 applications, while Apple has about 650,000.

According to CNET, Google is preparing to hide these applications, making it impossible for users to download them until the developers update them.

The main reason both companies are taking these measures is to protect the security of their customers.

Older applications do not take advantage of changes in Android and iOS, new APIs or new development methods that bring improved protection. As a result, older applications may have security vulnerabilities that newer applications do not have, the report said.
