Live updates while Preston’s old Odeon burns with closed roads

Firefighters have rushed to Preston to deal with what is thought to be a significant fire at the city’s former Odeon cinema.

At least four fire crews arrived at the site of Church Street this afternoon (May 14th) after a member of the public called for the blaze.

Syke Street is closed at the back of the former cinema, with fire engines visible on the road, as well as up Main Sprit Weind and Church Street.

The images from the scene show that a large-scale operation is underway to explore the former house with paintings.

An eyewitness told LancsLive: “I called the fire department. I was just told that smoke was coming out of several parts of the building and it looked like a big deal. “

This is the second major fire in downtown Preston in 24 hours, with the derelict St. Joseph Orphanage burning on Friday night.
