Boris Johnson will oppose warnings from the EU and the United States not to threaten unilateral changes to the Northern Ireland Protocol, saying “action will be needed” if Brussels does not provide more grounds.
However, after Washington warned him against the theater on the issue, the prime minister will arrive in Northern Ireland today, hoping to quell a verbal war with Brussels, stressing that “we will always keep the door wide open” for further talks.
He is likely to continue tomorrow with plans to draft a law canceling part of the post-Brexit deal with the EU.
Johnson points to problems with the protocol in organizing medical supplies and questions about whether VAT cuts can be applied in Northern Ireland to ease the cost of living, saying
