Porter Ranch Fire: More than 100 firefighters are battling a major wildfire

PORTER RANCH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) – More than 100 firefighters are battling a major wildfire in the Porter Ranch area on Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out shortly before 15:30 in block 11200 on Porter Ranch Drive. About seven acres of grass were burned south of Highway 118, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Contains 75% as of Sunday night.

About 140 LAFD firefighters responded to the site of the ground and air raid.

The crews managed to stop the advance of the fire around 4:30 p.m., LAFD reports.

Authorities call the flames Porter’s fire. The flames were ignited by a 10-15 mph wind from the south, according to LAFD.

Some fires have been reported near and within the Monteria Estates, but LAFD says there are currently no endangered homes and no evacuations.

Firefighters say a pickup truck parked in an area near Highway 118 was destroyed by the fire.

No casualties were reported.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SIG signal at Porter Ranch. East Highway 118 off the ramp to Porter Ranch Drive will be closed for at least an hour due to the fire, the CHP reported.

Drivers must look for alternative routes.

LAFD says the origin of the fire started in or near a homeless camp near the highway, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
