Senator Chris Van Hollen has been hospitalized after a stroke

Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) Announced on Sunday that he had a mild stroke over the weekend and is currently in hospital.

The 63-year-old senator was giving a speech in western Maryland over the weekend when he began to feel dizzy, he said. He sought medical help after his speech and soon learned that he had suffered a mild stroke.

“Earlier today, the angiogram showed that I had suffered a mild stroke in the form of a small venous rupture in the back of my head,” Van Hollen said in a statement Sunday.

The legislator was admitted to George Washington University Hospital, where he remains under the supervision of the medical team.

He said doctors did not expect him to have long-term stroke damage.

“Fortunately, I was informed that there were no long-term consequences or damage as a result of this incident, but my doctors advised me that I would be closely monitored for several days,” said Van Hollan. “I look forward to returning to the Senate later this week and thank the medical team for their excellent care.
