Vancouver police say they have arrested two teenagers who are “well known” to them on Saturday night after one of the couple sprayed a father and son near SkyTrain station in East Vancouver.
The incident happened around 9 pm near Nanaimo station, according to a spokesman for the Vancouver Police Department Sergeant. Steve Addison.
The father and son were returning from a Vancouver Whitecaps game when they collided with a group of teenagers, Addison wrote in an email to CTV News.
“There was a verbal exchange and it is alleged that one of the teenagers used bear spray,” he wrote. “VPD officers found the teenagers nearby and arrested two of them. Both are well known to police.”
One of the teenagers, a 13-year-old, was arrested for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and violation of court conditions. The other, a 17-year-old, was also arrested, but Addison did not specify what charges the police would recommend.
“The teens had crack cocaine,” Addison said, adding that both had been released from police custody and the investigation was ongoing.
A VPD spokesman said police believed the suspects and victims “were familiar”.
