The 2022 NBA Draft Lottery is on Tuesday and could change anything for any team that receives a first overall pick.
In most cases, the team that provides this top selection must keep it. It is difficult to find players with controlled costs with stellar potential and there is a good chance that the winner of the lottery will be in desperate need of a cornerstone. Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith Jr., Paolo Banchero and Jaden Ivey fit that description.
On the other hand, a team that suddenly finds itself in possession of such a desired asset may want to explore the return packages it can generate when trading. This is especially true for clubs with winning deadlines now, which helps explain why we’ve seen option № 1 trade twice in the last eight drafts.

The Houston Rockets seem to be engaging with Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. as their backfield of the future, reducing their chances of returning from No. 1 to catch Purdue’s Jaden Ivy.
