While other speakers at the 60-minute Russia 1 discussion show took up the Kremlin’s position that the invasion was a “necessity” to prevent a potential Ukrainian attack, Mr Khodaryonok suggested that Ukrainians were “defending their homeland”, even if some people in Russia do not agree with this idea.
Russia’s main weakness, Hodarjonok said, lies in its “complete geopolitical isolation.”
“However, we hate to admit it, the whole world is against us.
Mr Hodarjonok had previously questioned the rationale for full mobilization.
Russia insists invasion is “under control”
Mass mobilization, he said, would not give Russia an immediate advantage on the battlefield, as recruits would take months to train as they could be sent into action.
China has not publicly supported the Russian invasion and has said it will respect Western sanctions against Russia.
Of all the former Soviet leaders who went to Moscow on Monday for a session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, only the Belarusian president publicly supported the invasion, while others seemed visibly embarrassed at a televised meeting when President Vladimir Putin launched another anti-Western tirade.
