Apple announced a number of new accessibility features for its products on Tuesday that could help people with disabilities.

One of the highlights is the live captions for videos for iPhone, iPad and Mac. This means that people with hearing impairments or anyone who wants to watch a video with the volume turned off will see text at the bottom of the screen that they can read. Apple said it could be used for streaming services, FaceTime calls and other video conferencing applications. A similar feature is already available on Google’s Android operating system.

The software will be released later this year.

Apple has also introduced a new door opener that can help blind or partially sighted iPhone or iPad users find doors if they are unfamiliar with the area. The tool can also describe whether the door is open or closed and whether it can be opened by pushing, pulling or turning a knob. It uses lidar technology and machine learning to work. Lidar is available on the iPhone Pro and iPad Pro.

Among other features, Apple is adding a way for people with disabilities to reflect their iPhone support features on their Apple Watch, receive alerts on their iPhone when they hear a doorbell or a device to touch, and more.
