Fiona Hill says Putin “must keep explaining things” to Trump

Former Trump White House National Security Officer Fiona Hill said Russian President Vladimir Putin should “explain everything to former President Trump.”

“He had to keep explaining things, and Putin doesn’t like to do that,” Hill said this week, speaking at a meeting of the Global Affairs Council in Chicago in comments released by Insider.

Hill added that Putin deliberately chose to invade Ukraine during President Biden’s term in the White House.

“He thought that someone like Biden, who is a transatlantic, who knows everything about NATO, who actually knows where Ukraine is and actually knows something about history and is very immersed in international affairs, would be the right person to engage with. . against someone to whom you have to explain everything, honestly, “added the former national security official.

Hill also said Putin would often be disappointed with Trump’s lack of knowledge of the former president on geopolitical issues.

“You can see that he has been disappointed with President Trump many times,” Hill said. “Although he likes to be able to spin his own version of events, he wants to have predictability in the person he is dealing with.”

Hill added that Putin may “still be there, you know, waiting for us to ask for peace, to negotiate for Ukraine.”

Her remarks come almost three months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and as the Senate prepares to adopt a package for the besieged country and send another $ 40 billion in aid.

This aid package was delayed due to objections from Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Who urged leaders to add language to give the inspector general oversight of how humanitarian and military aid is spent in Ukraine.
