PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – At least two schools in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania have notified parents that masks have been mandatory since Friday morning due to the latest COVID-19 data released by the CDC.
According to the Cheltenham School District, the CDC has moved Montgomery County to a “high” level of the community with its COVID-19 data tracking tool.
Due to this change and guidance from Montgomery County Public Health, masks are now mandatory indoors and on public transportation from Friday.
“Please don’t forget to send your child to school in a mask. If your child does not have a mask, they are available in the nurse’s room. Once the county returns to the “average” of the data tracker, the area will return to the “recommended mask”. We are still offering Test to Stay and Mask to Stay for eligible students and staff, “the district said Thursday night.
The Lower Merion school district also requires masks indoors and on buses.
According to the latest data, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties are also at a “high” level of the community, although no other area requires masks at the moment.
Philadelphia remains at the “middle” level of the community, according to the CDC.
Health officials say the number of Philadelphians tested positive for COVID-19 is now as high as it was in the first week of February and has more than doubled in the past three weeks.
Hospitalizations in the city have also doubled.
Philadelphia officials say they are not currently restoring the mandate of the masks, but recommend wearing masks indoors.
