Pentagon spokesman John Kirby has moved to the White House

While the details are still being finalized, Kirby is expected to take on a senior communication role in foreign policy at the National Security Council. The Pentagon’s chief spokesman has become a prominent figure in the administration amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He will not hold regular White House briefings under the current plan, but will complement White House spokesman Carin Jean-Pierre on the podium when needed. The Washington Post first announced Kirby’s move to the White House.

Kirby was seen at the White House last week touring the West Wing. He told people that despite his years in the civil service, he was there for the first time. A source said Kirby had met with President Joe Biden to discuss the role in recent days.

As CNN reported, Kirby was considering replacing Jen Psaki as White House spokesman, but the role eventually went to Jean-Pierre.
