Thursday, May 19, 2022, 9:05 PM – Your weather icons show clouds and thunderstorms for the long weekend in southern Ontario, but will it be blurring?
This will be a stormy long weekend in Ontario, as the active model brings an annoying combination of seasons in the countryside. If you are planning an escape this weekend, you will have a hard time packing for the heat in some areas and the cold in others, not to mention the risk of severe storms in places.

The weekend will start in a sultry note with very warm temperatures and a little unusual summer humidity bathing the region. This moist air mass will prepare the ground for thunderstorms and torrential rains.
However, before you know it, a cold front moving in Ontario will reverse our temperatures and make things feel more like April by the end of the weekend. See below how your forecast will be presented every day this weekend.
FRIDAY:
On Friday, heat and humidity will accumulate in southern Ontario and the entire province, with widespread humidity levels in the low to mid-30s, likely even reaching the upper 30s for parts of southwest.
However, if you look at The Weather Network app, you can see a misleading rain icon for the region as the system heads to the Great Lakes and the warm front rises north through southern Ontario.
We will see the risk of thunderstorms in much of southern Ontario on Friday. The greatest risk will be in southwestern Ontario and Lake Huron and Georgian Bay as the cold front enters the region. Isolated thunderstorms are possible closer to the Greater Toronto area.
A series of strong to strong thunderstorms is forecast to develop on this front late in the day and into the evening. The biggest threats from storms that will develop will be heavy hail and gusty winds.
Saturday:
The Cold Front will continue its march through southern Ontario on Saturday, leaving the Huron Shores and the northern villa side with temperatures in the taller teens and lower 20s.
Heat and humidity will still be widespread in the Greater Toronto, Eastern Ontario and Lower Great Lakes region, with humidity values from the low to the mid-1930s for another day.
Saturday’s storm threat will target the 401 Windsor Highway corridor through Ontario, continuing to eastern Ontario and southern Quebec. Widespread thunderstorms are likely to occur as the cold front compresses warm and unstable air.
Some of Saturday’s storms could reach severe levels, with hail and destructive gusts of wind being the main risks. Pay special attention to the weather during the day and make sure you have a way to receive severe weather warnings as they are issued.

SUNDAY:
Unfortunately, an unsettled border will remain over the southern regions during Sunday’s day, creating a second system and returning rain and a slight risk of thunderstorms back to eastern Ontario.
System time is still in the air. If this second system moves faster, we will see drier conditions for the second half of the day on Sunday.
Temperatures will be much lower north to the shores of Huron and the villa province, with daily highs ranging from low to medium two digits. Corridor 401 will probably stay until the low 20s for another day.
