Videos from Bucha, Ukraine, appear to show a group of Ukrainian prisoners being led by Russian soldiers just before they were executed.
The videos, obtained and verified by The New York Times, were filmed on March 4 by a security camera and a civilian who witnessed the ordeal.
Security camera footage shows a group of nine Ukrainians hunched over, holding the man’s pants in front of them, and some with their hands over their heads, crossing the street in one file. At the front and rear of the group are two Russian soldiers with cannons pointing the line.
Eight witnesses told The Times that the prisoners were then taken behind an office building, shots were heard and the group did not reappear.
Additional drone footage from The Times corroborates eyewitness accounts of the groups’ bodies near an office building as Russian soldiers stand over them.
The videos were not reviewed independently by Insider.
The group of apparently executed men in the videos is also seen in a photo taken on April 3. The Times said Thursday’s investigation revealed “the clearest evidence so far” that Russian forces had deliberately executed the group, “directly involving those forces in a possible war crime.”
Reports of atrocities and executions came from Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, after Russian forces began withdrawing in late March. Stories and images from Bucha fuel international calls for a war crimes trial against Russia.
Russian authorities have repeatedly rejected reports of atrocities committed in Bucha, calling them “fake.”
