SYDNEY – Australia’s center-left opposition has won national elections on Saturday after Prime Minister Scott Morrison conceded defeat, although a late vote count in some constituencies will determine the exact composition of the government.
Anthony Albanes, who leads the Labor Party, is ready to become prime minister and will be the first Labor leader in Australia since 2013, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corp. Labor has won at least 72 seats in the House of Representatives with 151 seats where governments are formed, compared to at least 55 seats in the center-right coalition led by Mr Morrison of the Liberal Party. Each country needs 76 seats to govern without allying with minor parties or independents.
