Killian Mbape has signed a new three-year contract with PSG despite negotiations with Real Madrid

Killian Mbape has signed a new three-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Athletic announced on Friday that PSG have submitted an offer to Mbape, two years less than the previous deal they offered.

The French champions and player announced the deal in front of their fans at the Parc des Princes before their last Ligue 1 match of the season against Metz on Saturday night.

Speaking about the announcement, Mbape said: “I am really happy to continue the adventure here in Paris Saint-Germain. To stay in Paris, my city.

“I hope that I will continue to do what I prefer with all of you and win titles together. Thanks a lot”.

Mbape’s contract with PSG was due to expire in June and it was announced on Monday that he had agreed personal terms with Real Madrid before a potential free transfer.

However, PSG were still trying to persuade Mbape to change his mind and he had not yet signed any documents with Real.

Sources from PSG insisted to Athletic that Real’s confidence that he will move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer is inappropriate.

PSG’s new proposal had a significant focus on the fact that Mbape is at the center of the club brand, which will be a Paris-born player. Now he has chosen to sign and stay in the Parc des Princes.

Mbape was at the center of the transfer saga last summer when Real made two offers for the striker. Both were rejected, although Mbape later confirmed that he had asked to leave PSG.

The French national is considered one of the best strikers in Europe. He has scored 168 goals in 216 games for PSG, joining them in 2017 from Monaco, the club with which he made his adult debut.

Mbape won the World Cup with France in 2018 and the League of Nations in 2021. He has also won Ligue 1, France’s top class, five times since appearing in Monaco.

Individually, he has been named League One player of the year three times, has been selected three times for the Champions League this season and has been named the best young player in the 2018 World Cup.
