THOUSANDS of pounds were raised in a matter of hours for a young boy who had to have one of his fingers amputated after an alleged “assault” at his school.
Rahim Bailey, 11, injured his arm while fleeing an assault and beating at the Abertillery Learning Community earlier this week.
His mother, Chantal, said Rahim had suffered from “racial and physical violence” and other forms of bullying since moving to the school last September.
On Tuesday, a day after she said the school had promised to end the alleged harassment, Ms Bailey described Rahim being “pushed to the ground and then repeatedly kicked” before injuring his hand on a fence while ” make desperate try to leave the school grounds to escape the situation “.

He was taken to hospital in “agony”, but surgeons were unable to save Rahim’s injured finger. He is now recovering from surgery but is still in “a lot of pain” and his mother fears the long-term consequences of the accident.
“My son has to live with this for the rest of his life,” Ms. Bailey told Argus.
Police confirmed they were investigating, and the Abertillery Learning Community said the school was “working closely with Guent’s police and local authorities to establish full details of the incident.”

Ms. Bailey also set up a fundraising page in the hope that she could invest the money in future medical care for her son, including the possibility of a prosthesis to replace Rahim’s lost finger.
Since its inception on Thursday, it has received more than £ 10,500 from some 600 members of the public who have sent out an outpouring of support for Rahim.
Donors described the incident as “disgusting” and “heartbreaking” and wished it a speedy recovery.
