Woods shot with a 1-under-par 69 on Friday and finished with a 3-over in the first 36 holes. The cut line was 4-over. Woods shot 4 over 74 in the first round on Thursday.
The 46-year-old Woods is already 12 strokes behind current club leader Will Zalatoris, who is 9th in Saturday’s third round.
During the first round on Thursday, Woods seemed to grimace with some discomfort after hitting the eighth hole – his penultimate hole in his first round. As soon as he finished, Woods was asked by an ESPN correspondent how his surgically repaired right leg felt, and Woods said he “felt better before” while smiling.
Asked by ESPN how Woods managed to ignore what was happening to him physically after Friday’s round, he replied: “There is a mission. The mission is to move forward and win this thing in some way, and I know sometimes I don’t feel right, but hey, that’s it. That’s life, that’s sport. We push it, sometimes it breaks, but that’s good, you go back there and that’s why I have a great PT staff. I’m really good at breaking things and really good at fixing things, so that’s a great relationship. “
The third round of the PGA Championship kicks off Saturday at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
