Apple has reportedly shut down its main iPhone 14 vendor due to a screen crash

When the iPhone 14 launches in a few months, one of its largest display providers may not be on board. A report by the Korean The Elec says that Apple may terminate its longtime partner due to an unauthorized change in the design of the iPhone 13.

The publication reports that China-based BOE, which produces OLED panels for Apple from the iPhone 12, has not yet received any orders for the iPhone 14. This was followed by an incident in which the company was “caught changing the width of the thin film circuit transistors on OLED panels, which he made for the iPhone 13 earlier this year, “sources told The Elec.

According to the report, senior BOE executives visited Cupertino after the discovery to explain why they changed the design of the transistor – likely to increase profitability. The display maker struggled to meet demand this year due to a shortage of key chips needed for the panels. It is also reported that it failed to deliver its first delivery of OLED panels for the iPhone 12 in 2020 due to the company’s inability to pass quality control tests.

Apple did not seem to like the explanation, as the company has not approved new orders for the iPhone 14, which reportedly has more than 30 million OLED panels. These orders are now likely to fall into the hands of Samsung and LG, according to The Elec. It is rumored that the iPhone 14 will add a non-professional 6.7-inch Max model and drop the 5.4-inch mini display when it launches in the fall.
