Fetterman won the Democratic Senate primary on Tuesday while in Lancaster Hospital and underwent nearly three hours of defibrillator implant surgery that day.
Feterman said in a statement that he had returned to his home in Braddock, Western Pennsylvania, to rest and recover.
“I feel great, but according to my doctor’s instructions and Giselle’s orders, I will continue to rest and recover,” he said, referring to his wife, Gisele Barreto Feterman. “Later this week I will have a follow-up visit with my doctors at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital.”
He added: “I will take the time I need now to rest and reach 100% so that I can go at full speed soon and turn this seat blue.”
Feterman was registered at the hospital on May 13 while on his way to an election event. He said in a statement on May 15 that the stroke “was caused by a clot in my heart that had been in the rhythm of A-fib for too long.”
“I feel much better and the doctors tell me that I have not suffered from cognitive impairment. I am on my way to full recovery,” the vice-governor said at the time.
On Tuesday, Feterman – surrounded by his father, brother and campaign manager – watched the results of his hospital as supporters gathered in Pittsburgh to celebrate his victory, watch the general election and listen to a speech by the candidate’s wife. .
Feterman, who was elected to his current role in 2018 after an unsuccessful primary candidacy in the US Senate in 2016, is a defender of legal cannabis and lower prison sentences. He campaigned for former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, but expressed support for President Joe Biden during this year’s election campaign.
