Former President Donald Trump shared a post on his social media platform Truth that appears to suggest or predict a civil war in the United States, causing a stir.
The “truth” shared by the former president on Sunday came from an anonymous account named Maga King Thanos.
The post contained a screenshot of a March 19 tweet from El Salvador President Naib Bukele, asking how “the world’s most powerful country is falling so fast” in response to an update on inflation news.
The tweet was shared as a screenshot on the social site Truth by former Fox Nation presenter Lara Logan. The anonymous user supporting Maga had then “turned the truth” into the Civil War post, which was later shared by Mr Trump.
The exchange was highlighted by attorney George Conway, one of Trump’s most prominent conservative critics.
Mr Conway told CNN in an interview Sunday night that Democrats did not take the former president’s threat to American democracy seriously enough because “they are terrified of him.”
“But they are also afraid of a republican base that is becoming increasingly radicalized. “In fact, he believes that people who disagree with them politically are a threat to the nation, and therefore violence may be needed to fight them, and we saw that in this social media post,” he said.
The post was also condemned by others, including members of Mr Trump’s own party.
Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger, one of the few Republican critics of Mr. Trump in Congress, wrote: “Do any of my fellow Republicans want to speak now? Or do we just want to go through “just one more choice” first …? “
Democrat spokesman Eric Swwell wrote: “Donald Trump is calling for a civil war. Of course, like Vietnam and the walk to the uprising, he will not be enough man to fight him.
Mr Bukele, the president of El Salvador, is known for being very active on Twitter and having strained relations with the Biden administration.
