EasyJet cancellations: Thousands of passengers hit after 30 last-minute cancellations

Thousands of easyJet passengers are out of position after the airline canceled more than 30 flights in a short time.

Problems for easyJet passengers began yesterday afternoon, with flights from Belfast International to Faro and Bristol being canceled while passengers waited at the exit.

Passengers who have to leave these destinations have also been told in a short time that they will not travel.

Rosalyn Gormley of Belfast was waiting at Bristol Airport for her flight home.

“Suddenly at 7.53 we received a message that the flight had been canceled,” she told Stephen Nolan on BBC Radio Ulster. The announcement told passengers to book a hotel through the app, but Ms Gormley said it continued to crash and ground staff were not helpful.

“They told us ‘You must leave the building’ and drove us away like animals with nowhere to go.”

Ms Gormley said they had been told, “If you don’t get out, we’ll call the police and you’ll be arrested and possibly blacklisted.”

She managed to find a place to stay and flew back to Belfast on Monday morning.

Separately, easyJet canceled the last flight from Belfast International to London Gatwick on Sunday night and the first on Monday morning.

At least 26 easyJet flights were canceled to and from Gatwick on Monday.

A noon traveler to Venice told The Independent: “There are no easyJet staff to help with Gatwick. No [easyJet] available flights. I just paid £ 280 with Wizz Air. ”

An airline that cancels a flight is obliged to provide an alternative departure on the same day, if any – even if it means buying a ticket from a competing carrier. In addition, passengers are entitled to compensation of £ 220 or £ 350, depending on the length of the flight.

An airline spokesman said: “easyJet operates about 1,650 flights online today, with a quarter operating to and from Gatwick.

“Unfortunately, we made some cancellations during the night before customers arrived at the airport this morning.

“This is due to a number of different factors, including reduced flow at Gatwick due to runway operations yesterday, four aircraft experiencing technical problems and minimum crew rest requirements after yesterday’s flight.

“We have notified all customers and provided them with their options and apologize for the inconvenience.”

British Airways continues to cancel over 120 short and medium-haul flights daily to and from its main base, London Heathrow.

BA says passengers are being informed a lot to make alternative arrangements.
