Google Assistant is introduced in the Galaxy Watch 4 via the Play Store

Owners of the Galaxy Watch 4 have been waiting for Google Assistant since Samsung released the Bixby-only wearable last year, and support is now officially launched today.

Google gave the first official look at the Assistant running on the Galaxy Watch 4 in February. There is a new design that is after the experience with the Pixel phone. Starting with “Hey Google” opens a full-screen user interface with a black background and a four-color light bar at the bottom that responds to voice input.

The Assistant logo also appears briefly with a “Hello, how can I help?” Prompt, while the weather looks distorted at the top. In addition, the results UI has also been upgraded with background blur used everywhere.

As of today, Galaxy Watch4 users will also be able to download Google Assistant on their devices, accessing faster, more natural voice interactions, quick answers to questions and help on the go.

Compared to what was previously available in Wear OS 2, Google advertises “faster response time than ever.” From our brief use today, voice transcription seems to be processed on the device and appears almost instantly. Available actions include asking what’s on your calendar, setting timers, playing music, calling contacts, and sending messages.

Before against after

Interestingly, Galaxy Watch 4 users are simply asked to update a new Assistant app that appears in the Google Play> My Apps list. (You can also search for it in the Play Store of the watch.) After downloading the latest version, Google Assistant will appear as a new icon in the App Launcher.

Launch prompts you to “Activate Google Assistant on your watch” as users head to their phone to complete the rather long process.

  1. Enable Google Assistant.
  2. Access your Assistant with “Hey Google” and accept Voice Match.
  3. Preserving audio is your choice.
  4. Gets personal results on your watch.
  5. Talk to your Assistant with a button.

In addition to the application icon and the hot word, Assistant can be activated via a hardware key: Application Settings> Advanced Features> Customize Keys. Appears under “Double-tap” or “Press and hold” on the Home key. You can enable / disable “Hey Google” and “Speech output” in Settings> Google> Assistant.

Google Assistant will be available in 10 markets, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States. It will also support 12 languages, which include Danish, English (American, Canadian, UK, Australian, Irish), Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French (Canadian, French) and Taiwanese.

With this launch, Google has completed the launch of all new / updated first-party apps (YouTube Music, Google Pay and Maps), except for one announced with Wear OS 3 at I / O last year. Fitbit will debut on the Pixel Watch this fall.
