Shell paused its annual general meeting in London after it was interrupted by environmental protesters chanting, “We will stop you.”
Climate protesters said on board the oil and gas company: “We will reveal you. We know who you are. We know what you did. We will remember. “
They repeatedly chanted “Shell must fall” and accused the board of spending “more money on green advertising than green technology”.
Protesters shouted “shame on you” at a gathering at Central Hall in Westminster. Shell Chairman Sir Andrew Mackenzie became increasingly irritated when he asked for silence and was forced to formally adjourn the meeting after 40 minutes as it was interrupted.
One of the shareholders shouted at the protesters “Out! out! out! ” and another made rude gestures to them.
Police arrived at the meeting and watched the protests continued for more than an hour.
One protester said: “Where is your decency? Why are you sitting there smiling? You can’t fire us. “
Another attendee replied angrily, “You got involved in this meeting. Let the President answer. “
The protester replied: “They give us answers and it is always green.”
The protesters then sang “We want climate justice now.”

Investors are about to vote on Shell’s climate proposals at the event. The investor of Shell Royal London stated that he intends to abstain from voting on the company’s proposals for climate transition.
“There is not enough certainty in the plan that it is in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the global effort needed to limit the rise in temperature to below 1.5 C,” said Carlotta Garcia-Manas, head of commitments at Royal London Asset Management. .
The Dutch activist group Follow This wants the company’s policies to be more compatible with the Paris Climate Agreement. Shell’s board has told investors to reject the group’s resolution, which calls for it to set stricter climate targets.
