I’m afraid. Be very afraid!
As he works to complete his last priority activities before the municipal elections on October 24, Sault Ste. Marie’s city council will vote Tuesday to give awards to homeowners and businesses that have the scariest Halloween displays.
The idea was raised last year by the 1st ward. Sandra Hollingsworth.
She and her colleague from ward 1 count. Paul Christian thought it would be fun to have a Halloween contest similar to the popular Christmas Lighting Awards.
City officials recommend two categories for prizes: a city-wide housing category with first, second and third place winners and a business category with one city-wide winner.
The nominations will be sought after by the public and the winners will be chosen by the same judges who judge the Christmas lighting prizes.
City officials will contact nominated property owners and / or tenants to make sure they want to participate.
The winners would receive a terrible plaque.
Officials suggest that if the city official’s office is tasked with administering the new Halloween Spirit Awards program, they should not be traumatized by the need to hold municipal elections and a fearsome competition at the same time.
So there will be no Halloween Spirit awards during the election years.
The meeting of the Municipal Council this week will be broadcast live on SooToday from 16:30 on Tuesday.
