PRAGUE – The Czech Republic unveiled its first case of monkeypox on Tuesday in a woman returning from a festival in Belgium, officials said on Tuesday.
The patient is being treated at the Central Military Hospital in Prague, said the head of the Czech Society of Infectious Medicine (SIL) Pavel Dlouhi, confirming the case, which was previously reported by the news site Lista Zpravy.
The National Institute of Public Health (SZU) said a sample of one in three people tested was positive, although final test results will be confirmed next week.

Tests on the other two suspected patients are also still underway, the statement said.
It says the first patient attended an Antwerp music festival in early May and began showing symptoms after returning.
Several other European countries have reported their first confirmed or suspected cases of monkeypox.
Outbreaks are alarming because monkeypox, which is spread by close contact and was first discovered in monkeys, occurs mainly in West and Central Africa and only occasionally spreads elsewhere. (Report by Robert Mueller and Jason Howett; Editing by Andrew Havens and Emelia Sitol-Mataris)
