The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the upcoming video game featuring Gollum, which was first unveiled in 2019, will finally be released on September 1, developer Daedalic Entertainment announced on Tuesday. The game will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S, with the Switch version running for “later this year”, according to a press release.
I was able to see a brief overview of the game in a call at Zoom last week. If you’re familiar with Gollum’s shady nature from books and movies, you won’t be surprised to hear that you’ll do a lot to sneak in to get to where you need to go. But the video also included a lot of touring the environment – Gollum spent a lot of time scaling the walls and making great jumps to avoid danger. Players will also have the opportunity to react to situations such as Gollum or his better self, Sméagol, and your choices may have implications for the game’s history in the future.
The game Gollum marks the beginning of a big month for Lord of the Rings, as it launched the day before the Amazon Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. And it’s good to have a solid release date for a big game this year, especially after games like Starfield, Redfall and the sequel to Breath of the Wild were moved to 2023.
