For the first time for the Ukrainian military, its special operations forces released a video of foreign ammunition, also known as a kamikaze or suicide drone, neutralizing a Russian tank.
The 44-second video, posted on Tuesday by Ukraine’s special operations forces on Facebook, shows an overview of Russia’s position. A moment later, the tank was engulfed in an explosive fireball, which turned into a puff of smoke.
The footage is then rotated to a viewing angle showing the scene from the drone’s perspective as it descends toward the Russian tank. In the middle of the video you can see a green square fixed on the tank and the Russian troops sitting on the armored vehicle, which shows the purpose of the drone.
As can be seen below graphic video, the screen darkens just before the drone hits the tank.
“A modern kamikaze drone, equipped with a powerful explosive, flew directly into the tank, causing irreparable damage to the enemy,” the Ukrainian Facebook post said.
Ukraine said the footage was taken by a camera mounted on the drone. It adds that the Russian tankers of the tank were killed. Russia has suffered significant losses since the start of an unprovoked war against Ukraine in late February.
At the end of the video, the text “Executive Producer Switchblade” flashes on the screen.
Switchblade drones are wandering munitions filled with explosives that have the ability to stay in the air until the target is identified and then hit it, detonating the explosives, and they are among the deadliest items provided by the United States to Ukraine as part of from security help packages.
Ukraine said in a Facebook post that “the video is being released to the general public for the first time, but it is worth noting that the use of kamikaze UAVs is a regular practice.”
“This is a good example of how the help of foreign partners together with the training and professionalism of our soldiers give positive results on the front,” the publication explains.
In particular, against the background of the video Ukraine put instrumental music from “Star Wars”, leading to the strike. Once the screen goes black, the music turns to the themed song from the American sitcom “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.
During Russia’s three-month war, Ukraine repeatedly published propaganda videos of various attacks on Russian forces and positions set to a variety of music – which could be seen as an attempt to normalize the killing of invading Russian troops.
