Chester man killed in dog attack while owner describes horrific consequences

A 62-year-old man from Chester has died after being bitten by a dog owned by his daughter-in-law. The victim, locally known as Kevan Jones, suffered cardiac arrest after being bitten in a house in Wrexham.

Chanel Nicole Fong was with her father-in-law when he died at her home on Holt Road, which she described as “the worst day of her life.” Police confirmed that the dog was euthanized.

In a public Facebook post, Chanel said she had asked her father-in-law to take care of her dogs as she would be out for parts of the day. Ms Fong said Mr Jones was the only person who could handle his dogs besides her and her husband Josh, who was in London at the time of the incident, North Wales Live reported.

As she was preparing to leave the house at about 11:20 a.m. Monday, Ms. Fong said she heard Mr. Jones in the kitchen telling Cookie Doe, the dog that bit him, to get off him. She entered the room and told the dog to come down, and Mrs. Fong said he did.

In the publication, she said she then noticed blood coming from her father-in-law’s leg and grabbed the dog’s blanket to help stop the blood coming from the wound. She said she then took him to the couch and called an ambulance.

Ms. Fong said the 62-year-old man grabbed her shoulder to tell her she was dying. At the time, she was still in line with the ambulance and said she had been told to put it on the floor and start compressing her chest. An ambulance arrived about seven minutes later, she said.

Paramedics spent 45 minutes trying to save Mr. Jones’ life, but he unfortunately died on the spot. Ms. Fong thanked the emergency services in her post for helping them with what she described as the worst day of her life.

She wrote: “I would like to thank the North Wales Ambulance Service, the Air Ambulance, the North Wales Police and their dedicated dog handling team. But after working on Caven for 45 minutes, he took no more breath.

“Today was the worst day of my life. I had to watch two men I love so much take their last breath. I can’t shake Kevan’s blood off my hands, and all I can hear in my head is the Cookie Shouts.

“The cookie did not attack Kevan, he is a big boy and he plays too rough. Please respect Josh and his family, me and my family in this absolutely heartbreaking time. The cookie was euthanized in the back garden by a trained veterinarian, the other dogs were checked by the dog handling team, our special girl Fire was taken because she has an athletic physique, but the others were happy and everyone was put to bed. “
