Kitchener Rugged Maniac ticket holders feel cheated

Some local fitness enthusiasts are looking for their money back after buying tickets to a popular extreme hurdles event.

The Rugged Maniac event was scheduled for May 28 at Chicopee Ski Hill in Kitchener. But weeks before the event, it was rescheduled at a park in Uxbridge, Ont. more than 150 kilometers with a new date September 3, 2022

“We received something like a standard email written back, which simply said, ‘Sorry for the inconvenience.’ “We are not reimbursing anyone, which I thought was not very respectable on their part,” said Tara Pedersen of Cambridge.

Pedersen said her gym, Proactive Training Cambridge, has about 100 members planning to go to the competition as a team building event.

“Everyone wanted to go. “Everyone was ready and excited to leave and they just pulled the carpet out from under us,” she said.

Pedersen said he felt “very disappointed” and “angry.”

“With 100 participants, they would raise $ 7,000,” she said.

Now the gym is hosting its own event.

“We just feel cheated that we bought tickets as a group that we were told would host a specific place on a certain day,” said Emerson Petrie of Proactive Training Cambridge. That’s why we’re now hosting our own event called the ProActive Gauntlet this Saturday at Dixon Park in Cambridge. We have been working hard over the last week to plan and organize our own family outdoor training event that will have various obstacles throughout the day. ”

THE COMPANY ANSWERED

CTV News contacted the company, which did not say specifically whether ticket holders could receive a refund, but said in an e-mail statement:

“While we are excited to be returning to the events of the Canadian Rugged Maniac, unforeseen circumstances have led us to find a replacement that has prompted many to ask questions,” said Caitlin Greenleaf, vice president of marketing, USA TODAY NETWORK Ventures Endurance. “We encourage fans to contact info@ruggedmaniac.com as we work to provide an improved course and experience on race day!”

The Rugged Maniac website states that all sales are final unless the event is canceled due to pandemic restrictions and that the change of date or location is not canceled.

“They plan to move it to another place at a different time of the year, entirely as a change,” said ticket holder Amanda Desjardins.

A local lawyer said buyers should make sure they read the fine print before buying something online.

“Many of us today, with everything very virtual, many of us click without reading it,” said Khaled Wahab of Wahab Law. “This may be the case when many of these buyers have not read the fine print. The small print says we can change these events. “

CTV News contacted Chicopee Ski Hill but received no response.

In an email sent to one of the ticket holders we spoke to, Rugged Maniac said those with tickets could transfer it to another runner or postpone it to another event this year or next.

Another Rugged Maniac Kitchener event from 2023 has not yet been finalized.
